Hidden Letters  ( “Nüshu”) – directed by Awards-winning film director Violet Feng–  is the first documentary to have received an impact campaign grant from One in a Billion Productions (501c3) in the Spring of 2022. It’s a moving documentary about a secret language used by women in China to communicate with one another through calligraphy, poetry, and songs without the knowledge of men.

The film tracks two (“Nüshu”)   practitioners, both women in modern China, who struggle against stifling societal expectations while fighting to protect NuShu from the exploitation of commercialization.

Hidden Letters made its world premiere as the official selection of the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. It is currently on the film festival circuit in Europe and Asia and will soon be released in theatres nationwide. Stay tuned!
